One of the things that many residents find unclear is exactly which Council – Town, District or County – is responsible for what in the town. As a very rough guide:
The Town Council has responsibility for:
Amenity Areas
The Rose Garden which is part of Alcombe Common
Irnham Road Recreation Ground, King George V Playing Field, Cross Farm Park, Periton Playing Field and Alcombe Marsh Common including the Rose Garden, Culvercliffe Play Area and Alcombe Combe.
AllotmentsThe Town Council has six sites – Marshfield Road and Harepark Terrace in Alcombe and at Poundfield Road, Periton Way, Periton Lane and Orchard Road.

Cemetery & Memorial
Minehead Cemetery is on the Porlock Road at Woodcombe. We also maintain the closed churchyard at St Michael’s Church on North Hill and the War Memorials in Minehead and Alcombe. For other information contact The Town Hall on 01643 707213.

Minehead Cemetery main gates are open 7.30am -3.30pm, otherwise please use the side pedestrian entrance (open 24 hours) - wheelchair access via lychgate. For a complete set of Cemetery Regulations please see Cemetery Regulations & Scale of Fees pdf above.

A member of staff will usually be on duty Monday to Friday 7.30am to 3.30pm. Gates will be locked at 3.30pm.
Minehead Town Council accepts no responsibility for loss or damage etc. No planting of grave spaces. No glass vases, jars, stone chippings (only allowed on suitable kerb sets) or artificial flowers are allowed.
Dogs must be kept on a lead. No alcohol allowed in the Cemetery. No cycling.
During the Christmas period Minehead Town Council Cemetery staff will not be available on site except to cover Health & Safety matters.

Public Conveniences
The Public Conveniences are at (1) Quay West (car park), past the Ship Aground pub on the left (2) Summerland Place (car park next to the Co-op shop), (3) Irnham Road Recreation Ground, near the Bowling Club, (4) Warren Road by the roundabout, (5) Blenheim Gardens Ladies and Disabled at the South end accessed off The Avenue or Blenheim Road, (6) Blenheim Garden Gents accessed off the Avenue or North Road.
Winter opening hours are 9.00 am to 4.00 pm, with the Summerland Place facilities open 9.00 am to 5.00 pm.
Sites (5) and (6) in Blenheim Gardens are closed between 31 October and 31 March

Christmas Lights
Every year Minehead Town Council supplies the town’s Christmas lights, and the tree with lights in Wellington Square
Flowers
Organising floral displays in the town, including traders’ purchase of hanging baskets and other displays. In 2017 the Council took over the large beds and planters in The Parade and also the bed in Wellington Square from the District Council. Grants
Small grants of up to £500 each can be made to community and voluntary organisations for specific projects.
Noticeboards
Four noticeboards are maintained for the display of community information – at the Council Offices, at the main gates of Blenheim Gardens and at Alcombe.
