 Local celebrity Dionne Jones, who won the BBC Points West "Unsung Hero Award", assisted the Mayor, Councillor Val Welch, in turning on the Minehead Christmas lights. The local shops in Minehead stayed open for late night shopping and with live entertainment also being provided at different venues around the town made the evening very successful and enjoyable. Photograph: Dionne Jones, Santa and the Mayor, Councillor Val Welch Councillor Val Welch, accompanied by her husband, and along with other local dignitaries and members of the public, attended the Remembrance Sunday Parade on 10 November. The Parade mustered at The Royal British Legion Branch Headquarters in Bancks Street, Minehead at 2.30 pm and was followed by a church service at The Baptist Church, Parks Lane at 3.00 pm, after which a coach took members up to the War Memorial on North Hill where a wreath was laid. Refreshments followed at Branch Headquarters.
The Mayor, Councillor Val Welch, accompanied by her husband, was pleased to accept the invitation to attend the dedication of the Garden of Remembrance at Wellington Square, Minehead on Sunday 3 November at 12.00 noon.
On Tuesday 5th November the Mayor attended a function at Timberscombe Village Hall to support their application for a Lottery Grant for a mini bus. The Mayor of Bridgwater Cllr. Dave Loveridge and his wife Shirley invited many dignitaries including the Mayor of Minehead Cllr. Val Welch and her husband Tom to attend Bridgwater Carnival on 2nd November 2013. The annual event attracted large audiences from all over the country. A full programme of events during the day started at 10.00 am to entertain the crowds before the main Carnival Parade which started at 7.00 pm, ending with simultaneous squibbing.
