Over forty people gathered to remember those who died in the Two Great Wars in other countries, particularly remembering those who served, suffered and died in conflicts in the Far East. The service was led by Rev John Thorogood and, as the standards of the Burma Star Association, Royal British Legion and Air Cadet Squadron were lowered, and the notes of the bugle playing the Last Post filled the Gardens, wreaths were laid at the Memorial there.
![]() On Saturday 10 August the Mayor attended the Minehead Annual Flower Show at The West Somerset College. The Show is organised by the Minehead and District Gardeners’ Association who, despite bad weather, set up and ran a well organised and well attended Show. The Mayor was delighted to tour the exhibits with the President of the Gardeners’ Association before presenting thirty trophies to the winners of the various sections. The Mayor told those present how much she had enjoyed viewing the entries and that she was particularly pleased that in many cases she had, without seeing the Judge’s verdict, ‘picked the winner’. It was also good to see so many local businesses sponsoring the Show’s numerous categories of flowers, vegetables and crafts. She congratulated everyone on their efforts and thanked the large number of people who had come to view the Show for their support of this local event. ![]() On Saturday 3 August the Mayor attended the final orchestral concert of the 56th season of the Minehead & Exmoor Music Festival at The Regal Theatre, Minehead. She very much enjoyed the programme of music by Brahms, Grieg and Elgar, most notably enjoying the wonderful playing of Cyrus Cheng in Grieg's Piano Concerto. A full house were treated to a wonderful evening of great music under the baton of conductor, Richard Dickins. ![]() On Saturday 27 July the Mayor and Deputy Mayor, together with the Chairman of the Friends of Minehead Station, Martyn Snell, welcomed visitors off the first 'shuttle linked' train from Taunton for many years.
