1/8/2012

On the 1st August 2012, The Mayor Cllr. A Berry with Cllr. P Grierson and Mrs Archer and Mr Forgan of the Minehead Allotments Society judged the Minehead Allotments Competition for the Best Kept Allotment, they toured all the Town Council sites and picked the best allotment from each site (any allotment holders were not allowed to judge their own sites). The criteria for judging was overall appearance, neatness, variety and condition and judging was very tight between the winning plots.

On the 8th August 2012, the winners were invited to attend a presentation of the Dick Collins Challenge Cup for the Best Kept Allotment which was won by the Overall Winner Mr Coward from the Periton Way Allotment Site who was presented with the trophy by The Mayor with the chair of the Allotments Committee Cllr. Paul Grierson also in attendance.

All site winners received a gardening voucher for £5 with the overall winner receiving a further voucher for £15, they all also received a certificate showing where they were placed and the Overall Winner Mr Coward was also presented with the Dick Collins Challenge Cup for the Best Kept Allotment, congratulations to all winners and runners up.

Cllr. Grierson and the Mayor both stated that it had been hard to choose between some of the plots and that all plot holders should be commended for their efforts, especially as the weather had been so poor this year. Beryl Priddle was also thanked for baking a cake and some biscuits for the presentation.  It was also suggested that the competition would be earlier next year and that next year could possibly include a Front Garden Competition.

JULY - The Mayor attended the Clowns AGM and was pleased to hear that they had received their funding from SCC. He also attended an event for Help the Heroes, which was a fund raising walk on the South West path.

JUNE - The Mayor was invited to the Wellington Hotel as one of the judges in the 'bunting design' competition which was sponsored by J D wetherspoon.  The winner of the competition had their bunting printed off for publication in the national J D Wetherspoon magazine. The prize giving was on Saturday but unfortunately neither the Mayor nor Deputy were able to attend.
