Cllr Vivienne Stock-Williams, the Mayor of Taunton Deane invited the Mayor of Minehead, Cllr Jean Parbrook to her Civic Service. Minehead Mayor, Cllr Jean Parbrook was delighted to attend with her husband Cllr Andrew Parbrook. The Service was held at 4 pm at St John the Baptist Parish Church, High Street, Wellington. After the service light refreshments were served in the Church Hall.
The Mayor Cllr Jean Parbrook accompanied by her husband Cllr Andrew Parbrook had a busy weekend as they joined other guests at Somerset School's Folk Dance Festival. The programme for the afternoon included a buffet lunch at St Cuthbert's Church at 12.45 pm followed by a procession through Wells from the Church yard to the Cathedral Green. The procession included both guests and school children. From 2.30 to 4.30 pm there was dancing on the Cathedral Green which was very enjoyable. The dances included Blaydon Races, Pat-A-Cake Polka, Farmer's Jig, Buttered Peas, Viginia Reel, Flamborough Sword Dance, Down In the Valley, Lucky Seven, (Schools own dance - optional), Oxo Reel, Bridge of Athlone, The Man who Broke the Bank at Monte Carlo, I want to be near you and Circassian Circle. After the dancing the Mayor of Wells provided afternoon tea which ended a very enjoyable day.
The Mayor of Minehead Cllr Jean Parbrook attended the West Somerset Volunteer of the Year Awards organised by Engage West Somerset. The awards took place on Friday 10th June at the Beach Hotel, The Avenue, Minehead. The awards celebrate the contribution made by the wonderful volunteers to our local communities.
