The Mayor of Minehead Cllr Leslie Smith was invited to attend a service on Sunday 29th June at St Peters on the Quay for the dedication of a new stained glass window and oak frames which he was pleased to accept.
The Mayor of Minehead accepted an invitation to attend a 'Sixth Form Presentation Evening' and was supported by his wife Patricia. Many students won awards that will serve to remind them of their academic success.
This was a well supported event with Mayor's from all over the district attending including our own Mayor Cllr Les Smith who was accompanied by his wife Patricia. Other visitors included Baroness Bakewell and many Councillors from Yeovil. The itinerary included a welcome from the Mayor of Yeovil Mike Lock followed by the formation of the parade which departed on foot from the Town House to St John's Church. The Civic Service then took place in the church, a reception was held afterwards at Westland's Leisure Centre.
The Mayor of Minehead Cllr Les Smith and his wife Patricia were invited guests to the Somerset Schools Folk Dance Festival held on the lawns of Wells Cathedral. More than 1000 youngsters from 52 schools took part in the Festival. Sadly there were no entries from West Somerset because of the costs involved in the preparation and travelling to the event. It was a lovely event (very dependent on the weather) but it would be great if some help could be made to help West Somerset participation again.
