Cllr Ron Bridle Deputy Mayor of Minehead and his wife Harriet were invited to a Wellington Town Council Civic Service at St John the Baptist Church on Sunday 25th May 2014 at 4.30 pm and were pleased to attend. Cllr David Mitton Mayor of Wellington said the aim of the service is to reflect the valuable voluntary services that plays such a large part in the local community. After the service refreshments were served in the Church Hall.
Cllr Les Smith the new Mayor of Minehead was invited to attend the Guinness World Record attempt as part of International Food Revolution Day as an independent witness for Minehead First School. Leading chef Jamie Oliver led the UK campaign to break the record for the most people taking part in a cookery lesson in 24 hours. Every Pupil, from the youngest aged 4 years, with help from parents and teachers all took part. After viewing a cookery lesson on the internet participants had to prepare their own tortilla wrap filled with various salad fruit and vegetables. Food Revolution day is a fresh food initiative designed to help children understand the importance of fresh food and healthy eating in the global environment.
![]() At the Annual Full Council Meeting on Tuesday 13th May 2014 a new Mayor Cllr. Les Smith was chosen and Cllr. Ron Bridle was elected as Deputy Mayor of Minehead for 2014/2015. The New Mayor of Minehead Cllr. Les Smith thanked the former Mayor Cllr. Val Welch for all the hard work and commitment she had displayed in her role as Mayor for 2013/2014. Minehead entertained a group from its twin town St Berthevin. The Mayor of Minehead Cllr Val Welch welcomed the party to Minehead on their arrival on the 8th May 2014. On the first full day members of the group explored the area with their hosts while others spent time with Sally Bainbridge of Minehead Conservation Society. In the afternoon their was a walk on North Hill followed by skittles in the evening at the Brittania Inn. Sheppy's Cider Farm was visited on the Saturday to learn about the history of cider making and for the all important tasting. A lunch at Dulverton Town Hall was followed by a visit to the Heritage Centre in Dulverton. On Saturday evening the guests went to country dancing at Minehead First School. A group from Minehead will visit St Berthevin next year.
![]() The walk is in aid of the Alzheimer's Society and the two ladies set off at 9.15 today to recreate a walk undertaken in 1871 by Felicity's grandmother who walked from Minehead to Barnstaple when she was 23 years old.
